This week's spotlight is focused on two of my favorite game related movies. I enjoy teen sci-fi movies because they include intensity, romance, thrill, and leaves you resonating with the "what if" question. These two movies can't be found on Netflix or YouTube, but they are ones that I strongly recommend watching!
Nerve, released in 2016, was the teen drama/mystery of the summer. The movie is about a high school student (Vee) who falls into peer pressure and pure curiosity of a secret online game. The game is set up like a more intense version of truth or dare. Each truth or dare you complete successfully results in a cash prize, but if a player fails the challenge in the time given all money is lost and they are disqualified from the game.
Ready player one
Ready Player One, directed by Steven Spielberg, was released this year in March. The movie is set in the future and is about how a large amount of society ranging from all ages are looking to escape reality by joining a virtual online world (the OASIS) to meet other individuals and be who they really want to be. The story-line focuses on a teenage boy (Wade Watts) who enters the challenge to uncover the hidden secrets the game creator left before he died.
I feel as if recently, Anime has gotten a lot of popularity than previously in a generation that's constantly looking for the next trending thing. This has created a wave of fans who are in search of new movies and shows. Below are a list of my favorite anime movies/shows that can be found either on YouTube or Netflix. Enjoy!
A silent voice
A Silent Voice, which most likely can be found on Youtube, is a heartbreaking love story. The movie is based on a deaf girl, Shouko Nishimiya, who later on falls in love with her bully, Shoya Ishida. It sounds like a typical love story, I know. However the story-line is fast and constantly pulls on the audience heart strings and make you question everyone in the movie. This is my top romance anime movie I would suggest to a friend, I literally cry each time I watch it.
The girl who leapt through time
The Girl who Leapt Through Time, is an interesting movie that most likely can be found on YouTube about a young girl (Makoto Konno) who learns that she has the power of controlling time after getting into a deadly accident. Makoto begins using her power for her own personal needs, but soon realizes that she creates the Butterfly effect by alerting things in the past. This was the first anime movie that I've ever watched and instantly fell in love with but I only suggest watching it if you have nothing else to watch and want something that's predictable and sweet.
